Just like that it is 2018 and for some camps that start in May – camp is about 84 days away!!??
Some people have already been placed, some are on review, some are waiting to be sent to a camp for consideration and some have not even applied yet.
The reality is that over 60% of the camps we work with have not even started looking for new staff yet. Camps are busy recruiting campers and contacting existing staff to see if they want to return or have friends that they would like to recommend to their camp.
For those of you that have an existing application or are planning to apply – what can you do to improve your application? Camps are always looking for potential staff that offer great skills and great personalities. You need to emphasize the skills you have – are you a Swimmer and do you have the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, are you a Drama major – have you directed plays/musicals and if you have Archery or Riflery skills, camp would love to see your application.
The more you have to offer – the more camp will be interested in your application.
There are also camps that look for great personalities that simply love working with kids – camps will usually find a job you can do based mainly on your personality.
IENA will look at your application and will possibly decide that your skills could be used by a certain camp in a completely different way.
As we sit in the IENA office today with snow falling , we are looking forward to Summer 2018 – to steal a line from my favorite TV show Game of Thrones and change one word “Summer is Coming”
