Write to Secretary Tillerson
Dear Camp friends.
Our collective advocacy to Congress on behalf of J-1 exchange programs has been overwhelming, with nearly 100,000 letters sent. This activity has also brought successes: House and Senate sign-on letters, a Senate amendment, and a recently introduced House resolution, all conveying strong support for J-1 programs.
Please join us in the next phase of the Save J1 campaign by writing to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Multiple media articles report that senior White House officials are considering elimination or other restrictions to the Summer Work Travel, Intern/Trainee, Camp Counselor, and potentially other privately-funded exchange programs as part of the BAHA implementation. See our BAHA Fact Sheet for more information.
Using this letter, please take a minute to urge Secretary Tillerson NOT to include J1 programs in the BAHA implementation. We strongly encourage you to personalize this letter as much as possible and make it relevant to Camp Counselor AND Work and Travel (Support Staff).
J-1 programs are a critical part of our people-to people diplomacy and are essential to our national security. Additionally, these programs serve as significant economic drivers in small communities across the United States. The proposed changes to these programs would have a negative impact on local communities and employers, especially those that rely on seasonal business.
Let’s work together to ensure Congress helps preserve these programs!
Sincerely
Matt Buczek
