Some of IENA’s participants are lucky enough to spend the winter in warm Miami, Florida. The students, all from Argentina, are working at The Betsy Hotel. Here’s what a few of them had to say about their experience in south Florida so far:
In the last month here in south beach Miami, I met with a lot of people from another countries like Germany, Italy, Colombia, Cuba and also United States people. It was fantastic because we exchange our culture, I speak every day with them without any problems so I can say that we are friends now. In the past, I thought that United States citizen was very closed in front of another person or culture but nowadays my mind has changed, so I can say that they are very good people and my experience here is fantastic.
I went with my colleagues to see the city, including the bay, the beach, the downtown area. I participated in the end-of-year party that our employer offers its employees and it was very good! I also visited shopping centers, interacted with my colleagues, who recommended places and areas of the city to visit. I walked south beach pedestrian and cycled through the area. I also visited two churches and I was able to participate in Masses and activities in them, in which I felt very well received.
I visit the downtown of Miami and local place of interest like Wynwood walls, a basketball match, the bayside and some more things. Also I played basketball with some friends at Flamingo Park and make some local friends. I also visit Orlando and Tampa in my off day and have fun in some parks. What is more, I played football with friends from Argentina that are working in other places, and then we eat barbeque and discuss about different cultures because there were people from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Americans.
I really enjoyed spending time with US citizens, exchanging opinions and practicing my English. They are very nice and always eager to help and interact with foreigners. I visited a nearby national park with a friend of mine from work, it was very beautiful, definitely was worth it and I really enjoyed it. There are many museums and galleries here in Miami that you can visit, so far I’ve been to as many as I could, none of them disappointed me so far, it was interesting, very organized and friendly, I’m looking forward to visit many more.
