Shayre is an IENA SWT exchange visitor from Peru. She’s working in the hospitality industry in Breezy Point, Minnesota, also known as “Land of 10,00 lakes.” Minnesota has 11,842 lakes that are 10 acres or more, and is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities.
Narveson Management, Shayre’s employer, recently took her and their other exchange visitors to Pelican Lake to spend the day ice fishing. The Peruvians learned the technique to this Minnesotan past-time, which involves drilling holes through the ice (up to 2 feet thick) to get to the fish below. Narveson rented an ice hut so Shayre and her friends were able to stay warm.
They hoped to catch walleyes, but ended up with a few small perch and took them home to cook ceviche. A true cultural exchange! We look forward to hearing how the ceviche tasted!
Thanks to Shayre for participating in our SWT spotlight!
