IENA heard from one of our Summer Work Travel participants early on in his program. Patricio and his friend Camila took time to explore New York City before starting their jobs at Mountain Creek Resort.
Here they are in Times Square meeting the locals:
Patricio and Camila are from Punta Arenas in Chile, on the Strait of Magellan in Patagonia. Punta Arenas is known as the “gateway into Antarctica.” Patagonia is famous for its beautiful scenery and outdoor opportunities, including skiing.
Stunning, isn’t it?
Both Pat and Camila are working as ski instructors at Mountain Creek, located in rural northwestern New Jersey. Much different from the hustle and bustle of Times Square! Mountain Creek offers skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing in the winter. In the summer it’s a water park and downhill/mountain bike destination.
Patricio says “I went to do snowboarding for the first time, which was fun given the fact that I’ve only done ski in my whole life. I went to a few towns like Franklin and Middletown, and the Middletown mall had a lot of stores. In December we had our first employees’ night of the season, which was a party with karaoke and drinks for the people over 21 at the resort’s pub with all of the employees from USA and foreigners. There were a whole lot of people. We got to know a lot of them there.”
Patricio says he is having the time of his life and doesn’t miss Chile at all.
Thanks to both Patricio and Camila for sharing their experience with IENA. See you on the slopes!
